SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (KRQE) - UNM hopes to make history in the coming days at Energy Solutions Arena in downtown Salt Lake City, by playing their way into their first Sweet 16.

The team landed late Tuesday afternoon.

If fans haven't booked a plane ticket to follow them, you might have a tough time getting a direct flight.

One of the Delta gate agents said he doesn't expect to see an empty seat on their direct flights before Sunday.

The Lobos did not have a problem.

The team, the cheerleaders and the band are all in Utah and were greeted by cherry and silver balloons and banners.

Even the bar is renamed The Pit while the team is there.

Coach Steve Alford says his team is used to this.

”They understand tournament basketball and I think that's what makes them so good and so fun to coach is that they're a very focused group,” Alford said.

The Lobos will get their first chance to check out the arena Thursday afternoon.

They're set to take the floor for practice a little after 5 p.m.

It is expected that they'll be joined by a few anxious fans because that practice will be open to the public.

The third-seeded Lobos take on Harvard Thursday night at about 7:50 p.m.

That game airs on TNT.

If the lobos take care of the Ivy League champs, they'll get the Arizona/Belmont winner on Saturday.
