BLOOMFIELD, N.M. (KRQE) - The Western New Mexico Mustangs escaped safely from their burning bus Friday but lost their gear and luggage as they headed to a game in Colorado.
The chartered bus carrying the Mustangs from Silver City to Durango for Saturday's game against Fort Lewis College caught fire and burned to the frame on U.S. Highway 550 near Bloomfield.
A flat tire is suspected of causing the fire.
On Saturday a team spokesperson said enough borrowed equipment had been found to outfit the team, and the game is on.
For now tomorrow's game is still on .. Depending on whether the mustangs can get replacement equipment.
