UNM cleared of wrong-doing in DWI case

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - UNM has cleared itself of any wrong-doing in a controversy that surrounded coach Locksley during his final hours on the job.

Joshua Butts, 19, a football player from Illinois was arrested for DWI outside last weekend's game at university stadium driving a vehicle registered to the Locksley family.

Butts claimed he was in town to play football for the lobos and that he was driving "coach's car".

Saturday, the university announced the UNM office of compliance has found that no NCAA violations took place.

Butts had not been recruited by anyone at the university.

Locksley said the same thing in a conversation with news 13 earlier this week.

“Josh is a family friend,” Locksley said. “I’ve know him since he was a7th grader, Josh was not a recruit of UNM. He wasn't brought here to play football.”

Turns out Locksley’s son Meiko who does play for the UNM football team had loaned the vehicle to Butts.

The results of the university's investigation are now headed to athletics director Paul Krebs, and the offices of the Mountain West Conference.
