Albuquerque (KRQE) - The player who led the University of New Mexico to their only football victory last season is leaving the program. Quarterback Stump Godfrey has asked for and has been granted a conditional release. Godfrey cannot play for a school in the Mountain West Conference or future Lobo opponent. Godfrey played in seven games last season after injuries to starter B.R. Holbrook and back up Tarean Austin. Multiple sources tell KRQE sports that Godfrey missed about a month of voluntary workouts. That may have hurt his stock in the eyes of teammates.
