LAS VEGAS, Nevada (KRQE) - Thousands of New Mexicans are in Las Vegas, Nevada to cheer on the New Mexico Lobos in the Mountain West tournament.
Lots of people from the state go there every year for the annual basketball tournament.
Bus loads of Lobo fans are expected to arrive and join the large group that has already made it to Las Vegas Thursday for the men's game.
Historically, Lobo fans have always traveled well to Las Vegas.
When the ticket count is complete, Lobo fans will probably have the most but not by much.
The national success of the conference this season has made the tournament a hot ticket among many schools.
The Mountain West is on pace to sell the most tickets in its 11 year history.
The conference tournament will call Las Vegas home until at least 2013.
With a renovated Pit fully complete by that time, the Lobos may have a better chance of luring the tournament away to Albuquerque.
The Pit was one of 27 sites considered the last time the conference shopped for venues.
Around 8,000 Lobo fans are expected at the tournament.
Attendance numbers will not be official until the tournament is complete, but tournament organizers are already calling it a win.
