ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The magical season has ended for the Cherry and Silver.
The No. 11 Washington Huskies hammered the No. 3 New Mexico Lobos 82-64 Saturday in San Jose during the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Lobos have never won in the second round.
After a speedy start, the Lobos went ice cold and the Huskies transition game took over.
The Huskies shot more than 48 percent from the field and distanced themselves early in first half.
Dairese Gary was the Lobos lone bright spot with 25 points in the game. Darington Hobson and Roman Martinez both scored in the double-figures, but weren't factors until late in the game.
The Lobos were a woeful 7-17 from the free throw line and had an uncharacteristic 13 turnovers in the contest.
New Mexico finishes the season with an overall record of 30-5, but lost two of their last three games.
The Washington Huskies will now travel to Syracuse to play in the Sweet 16.
New Mexico will return every player next season except senior Roman Martinez.
