Albuquerque (KRQE) - Steve Alford's 16th ranked University of New Mexico Lobos improved their record to a perfect 12 wins against no losses Wednesday night by defeating New Mexico State on the road 68 to 63. Lobos junior guard Kendall Williams tied a career high in scoring with 24 points. Williams was taken out early in the game after suffering some sort of ankle injury. It wasn't enough to keep him on the bench. Williams returned with a vengence scoring 13 first half points to help lift his team out of a 25 to 14 deficit. Williams and junior forward Cameron Bairstow scored 22 of the Lobos final 26 points of the first period to help New Mexico take a 34 to 32 lead at the break. Bairstow scored 9 points and pulled down a team high 7 rebounds in the game. The Lobos never trailed in the second half but, had to sustain a tough rally by the Aggies, who shot 59 percent from the three point line. That is the highest shooting percentage of any Lobo opponent from the arc this season. Sophomore guard Daniel Mullings paced the Aggies with 13 points and 5 assists. Senior forward Tyrone Watson scored 11 points in the loss while junior guard Kevin Aronis tied a career high of 12 points, going 4 of 5 from the three point line. The Aggies are now 5 and 6 on the season. For the Lobos, junior guard Tony Snell followed Williams in scoring with 11 points. Sophomore guard Hugh Greenwood scored 10 points for the victorious Lobos.
