Albuquerque (KRQE) - You could call it a trap game. Whatever it was it was not even close to the masterpiece game the University of New Mexico played against a very talented UNLV team this past Saturday. Give Colorado State credit for protecting their home court Tuesday against the freshly ranked Lobos. The 71 to 63 Rams victory put a damper on what had been a previous week of celebration for the Lobos. What a difference a week makes. The 18th ranked Lobos were riding high last week after knocking off two nationally ranked teams and adding a two game advantage to their Mountain West lead. Against Colorado State the Lobos looked out of sync, turning the ball over 17 times during the game.Kendall Williams scored a team high 16 points in a losing effort. Demetrius Walker came off the bench to keep the Lobos in the game behind 14 points. The reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, Drew Gordon, struggled to 13 points and 6 rebounds after experiencing a night of being double teamed by guys much smaller than him. The Lobos went 7 minutes and 23 seconds without a field goal in the second half. During that span they missed five shots and committed 4 turnovers-all on consecutive possessions. The Lobos are now 22 and 5 overall and 8 and 3 in the Mountain West. With 3 games to play, the Lobos have a 1 and a half game lead over UNLV and San Diego State. TCU will host the Lobos Saturday.
