Albuquerque (KRQE) - The University of New Mexico Lobos did what all Mountain West teams must do this conference season, protect the home court. In a battle of the nationally ranked the Lobos outlasted UNLV 65 TO 60 Wednesday night. Lobos sophomore center Alex Kirk scored 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in the win. Kirk had 16 first half points. UNLV super freshman Anthony Bennett scored 12 points for the Rebels in the loss.The Lobos used a 9 to 2 run late in the second half to put the game away. Junior guard Kendall williams scored 9 of his 11 points in the final 7 minutes of the game. Williams 3 pointer with 2 minutes and 9 seconds to go put the Lobos up for good. Lobos junior guard Tony Snell had 13 points in the win. The game was the conference opener for both teams. The Lobos are now 14 and 2 overall and 1 and 0 in conference play. UNLV drops to 13 and 3 overall. The Lobos will host Fresno State saturday.
