Albuquerque (KRQE) - The University of New Mexico Lobos are one step closer to winning their 5th Mountain West title under head coach Steve Alford. The 14th ranked Lobos protected their home court and sent San Diego State away with a 70 to 60 loss Wednesday night. Lobos Center Alex Kirk scored 25 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in the win. He also had 3 assist and 3 blocks. Kirk also knocked down a trio of three point shots on the night. Aztecs guard Jamaal Franklin had 16 points and 9 rebounds in a losing effort. The Aztecs outrebounded the Lobos, had more points in the paint and more second chance shots. The Aztecs even got more bench scoring with a 13 to 4 advantage. Once again, the Lobos found away to win. Forward Cameron Bairstow was a factor, making his prescence felt with 16 points and 5 rebounds before fouling out. With a victory over Wyoming Saturday, the Lobos can claim a share of the Mountain West title.
