It's not the way first-year University of New Mexico coach Bob Davie planned to spend his first game week in over 10 years.
Davie has been putting out fires with two off-the-field incidents that saw a pair of Lobo football players arrested over the weekend.
The latest incident involves a Lobo quarterback. David Vega was arrested for concealing his identity and being a minor in possession.
Vega has been suspended indefinitely and will not play in the Lobos season opener against Southern Saturday. When asked if Vega's suspension would have an affect on Saturday's game, Davie said no.
Starting quarterback B.R. Holbrook appears to be healthy again after chest inflammation put him on the shelf for a week.
Former Cleveland High School star Cole Gautsche is Holbrook's back up and is expected to get playing time. Davie wants to get the true freshman game experience.
