SAN DIEGO (AP) - A person with knowledge of the situation says Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is working on a contract to become head coach of the division rival San Diego Chargers.
The person spoke with The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because a deal hasn't been completed.
McCoy will replace Norv Turner, who was fired along with general manager A.J. Smith after the Chargers missed the playoffs for the third straight season.
McCoy's hiring would come three days after the top-seeded Broncos were eliminated from the playoffs in a home loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
ESPN first reported that McCoy is heading to the Chargers.
