ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Crime Stoppers began in Albuquerque in 1976 and has since spread around the state and the nation.
The program owes its success to offering cash rewards for information leading to arrests of criminal suspects. Callers who submit tips do not have to give their names to qualify for rewards and will remain anonymous.
Crime Stoppers programs are nonprofit organizations is supported by donations. Some accept both donations and crime tips through their websites and can receive crime tips by text messaging.
