Police: Sex assaults in football hazing

LAS VEGAS, N. M. (KRQE) - As many as nine boys may have been sexually abused in an alleged hazing incident involving the Robertson High School football team, KRQE News 13 has learned.

The allegations about what happened during a football camp outside Las Vegas are still unfolding, but New Mexico State Police now confirm they believe the sexual assaults with a broom handle did happen.

Investigators have identified six teens as possible suspects.

They believe the incident happened when the kids ages 14 to 17 were at an overnight training camp last week just north of Las Vegas.

State Police said five to nine possible victims came forward with the allegations as soon as they returned from camp on Thursday.  No charges have been filed against the suspects.

The district attorney's office has the case and charges are pending which could include assault, battery, criminal sexual contact and rape.

There are reports that some players were suspended from the football team and the coaching staff has been placed on leave.
