LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) - As the investigation into coaches' responsibility in a sexual hazing incident wraps up another Robertson High School football player alleged to be involved received a long-term suspension Wednesday.
Las Vegas City Schools Superintendent Rick Romero said a hearing officer made the decision on the suspension Wednesday morning. Neither that student nor three others suspended on Tuesday will be back in school this year, he said.
Two other team members facing disciplinary action have asked to have their hearings rescheduled.
The six players are accused of sexually assaulting younger teammates with a broom stick at a football camp.
Romero said the private investigator the school district hired has handed over his completed report.
The superintendent said he will look it over and discuss it with the district's attorney to decide what if any punishment the coaching staff should receive. That decision could be made as soon as Thursday, he said.
New Mexico State Police said they are nearing the end of their criminal investigation but don't know when it will go to prosecutors. The Santa Fe district attorney is handling the case after the district attorney in Las Vegas disqualified his office to avoid conflicts of interest.
