Cult leader released from jail after son posts bon

CLAYTON , N.M. (KRQE) - The leader of a northeastern New Mexico cult is expected to be let out of jail this afternoon after his son posted bond.

Clayton Police Chief Scott Julian told News 13 that Wayne Bent was released at 3 p.m. to his son Jeff Bent and three females.

Wayne Bent, who goes by Michael Travesser, faces three charges each of criminal sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Bond was initially set at $500,000 cash-only, but was reduced to $55,000 during a hearing on Thursday.

Court documents say Travesser had allegedly lain naked with two girls, and had lain clothed with another girl who was naked.

All three incidents allegedly happened on the cult's Union County compound in 2006 and 2007.
