ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - For months the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office has gone above and beyond to let people know how and where to vote.
Most recently the clerk’s office sent out a ‘voter information letter’ to all registered voters at a cost of $200,000.
The letter lists dates, voting locations and hours for early voting even hours for voting absentee in person.
It’s everything one might need to vote, everything, except the hours polling locations are open on Election Day.
“I think it would have been helpful to include because people like me who have never voted before they’re not going to know when to vote,” said First Time Voter Megan Walsh.
County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver’s staff told KRQE News 13 she was not available for an interview Tuesday.
The clerk’s spokeswoman told News 13 over the phone leaving the hours out of the letter was an oversight but that the hours have been the same for many elections.
“I feel like that’s kind of a, maybe an excuse to cover up the mistake, is what it sounds like to me,” registered voter Patrick Zacharias said.
Since Election Day voting hours have not changed for some time News 13 asked around to see if people could remember what those hours are.
“No, I’m not quite sure,” said Aubrianna Sanchez.
Leslee Richards, an experienced voter, said she didn’t know the specific hours but believed it was “something like 8 to 7, 7 to 7, something like that,” Richards said.
First time voter Megan Walsh thought the hours were 8am to 5pm.
All the registered voters News 13 asked made it clear, they were just guessing and they were all pretty close, Richards even guessed right.
The hours are 7am to 7pm.
However, when it comes to voting, they all agreed it should not come down to a guessing game.
