ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - A 22-year old African lion at the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo, who had been struggling with cancer, has died.
Zoo officials announced Thursday that Sarah was euthanized Wednesday after she became lethargic and refused to eat. Officials said when veterinarians performed a check-up on her Wednesday, they couldn't find any treatable causes for her declining health.
Born on September 1989, Sarah came to Albuquerque BioPark in 2002 from the Knoxville Zoo.
Lions usually live to 15 years in the wild while a few live up to 25 years in captivity.
