ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - East-central Chaves County is no longer under a tornado warning as storms there and in Lea County continue to produce dangerous weather.

Just before 11 p.m. radar indicated a storm capable of producing a tornado was about seven miles south of Elkins.  However by 1midnight the tornado warning has been scaled back to a severe storm warning as the still-dangerous weather moves eastward through Roosevelt County.

The severe storm warning was expired at 12:45 a.m.

A tornado warning in effect for southern Lea County also was been downgraded to a severe storm warning although radar still was picking up some rotation within the storm suggesting a tornado is still a possibility.  Regardless the storm may be producing dangerous winds and large hail with the severe storm warning extending until 12:15 a.m.

That storm was about 15 miles northwest of Jal and moving northeast at 15 mph.  It and a second storm tracking behind it also have been producing heavy rain which prompted warnings of flash flooding earlier in the evening.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. a member of the public reported the twister about 14 miles south-southwest of Malaga in Eddy County. Trained weather spotters confirmed the tornado about 15 minutes later.

At about 10 p.m. a trained weather spotter reported a funnel cloud near Ross Place about 30 miles west of Jal in Lea County.

Also around 10 p.m. a strong thunderstorm was reported 13 miles southeast of Wagon Mound and moving northeast at 20 mph.  The storm was producing 50 mph winds and half-inch hail and heading toward Mills and Roy.

The long-lasting storm in San Miguel County that produced two sets of tornado warnings was churning toward Texas.  The severe storm warning for San Miguel and Harding counties expired at 9 p.m.

Around midnight a severe thunderstorm was reported about 13 miles southeast of Wagon Mound and moving northeast toward Mills and Roy.
