ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It has happened again.
This time the Albuquerque Police officer in hot water has been making comments about pistol whipping citizens for the way they talk, cracks against Muslims and a joke using the Nazi flag.
Detective Pete Dwyer has been put on desk duty while the department investigates comments he put on twitter.
"No gun, no badge and no car."
APD Chief Ray Schultz said he took all those away from the 17-year veteran after hearing about the posts.
The problem started when a post on Dwyer's Myspace surfaced, saying "some people are alive because killing them is illegal."
Chief Schultz said they started looking into other social medial sites once they heard about the Myspace comment.
Thursday APD found Twitter comments that landed Dwyer in trouble.
One Twitter posting said Muslims, "are like Chinook salmon..life's great till the SEALS show up!"
Another said, "next person that says 'imma' instead of 'i am going to' i'm going to pistol whip."
Schultz said the racial overtones of the posts are concerning.
He said he is also looking into a posting of a picture that showed a Nazi flag mixed with an Obama campaign logo.
Schultz said social media can be a big benefit to the department.
"But at the same time, it can be a very destructive tool," He said. "and when I say destructive, when you challenge the credibility of any impartialness that is required of being a police officer."
This is the second social media meltdown with APD.
Officer Trey Economidy, who shot and killed a suspect in February, was suspended after it was discovered he listed his occupation on Facebook as "human waste disposal".
APD has been monitoring what officers post online ever since.
Economidy was suspended for that human waste disposal comment.
Dwyer put a twist on that on his Myspace listing his occupation is "oxygen thief removal technician".
Chief Schultz said Dwyrer could be suspended or even fired once their investigation is done.
