ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) - The Big I 107.9 morning show with Tony Lynn and Myles is done. Clear Channel executives made the announcement Wednesday morning calling the cancellation a business decision.
Tony Lynn and Myles Copeland helped create the Big I 107.9 brand back in 2000 when the station was created. The pair came from Albuquerque station KRST. Tony had been a longtime morning personality there; Myles had moved his way up after starting as an intern.
Clear Channel General Manager Chuck Hammond says the decision was based on ratings and revenue.
"We had some initial great successes, but over the last two years it was declining and we had to make a decision based on the fiscal responsibility of the station," Hammond said.
News 13 was unable to reach Copeland for reaction to the news.
Lynn said he is really going to miss the listeners.
"I am going to miss a lot of the calls we got everyday," he said. "We got to know people by their voices as much as they knew us by our voices."
The change takes effect immediately. While Clear Channel has not yet announced who will be replacing Tony and Myles, they say a deal with a new crew is in the works. In the meantime Bev, the afternoon host will fill the spot.
So what's next for Tony and Myles? Lynn said he and his wife are still gathering their thoughts.
"We've been here for 21 year,s and New Mexico has been good to us," he said. "Me and my wife have had a great time, whether or not we stay here, we'll see."
Lynn said--believe it or not--he is going to miss waking up at 3:15 a.m. to get to work in time.
