Kirtland-based satellite launches

KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (KRQE) - An Air Force satellite assembled and operated at Kirtland Air Force Base is now in orbit.

TacSat-3 lifted off Tuesday night from Wallops Island, Va.

It was assembled at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland, and its control center is there.

The satellite is testing equipment designed to provide real-time data to combat units in the field.
