SAN FRANCISCO (KRQE) - Classified ad Web site Craigslist will crack down on inappropriate content under an agreement with 43 states, including New Mexico, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The site will require people who post erotic services ads to provide a working phone number and pay a fee, which will be donated to charity.

Law enforcement could then subpoena the information.

The site will also implement some technological measures to help parental control software block access to the erotic services section and help remove ads that violate the site's rules.

The company is also suing 14 companies that provide services to help people posting erotic ads circumvent Craigslist defenses.

Attorney General Gary King said in a news release the agreement will help cut down on criminals using the site to sexually traffic children or advertise for other sexual crimes.
