LONDON - At least 200 buses in London are sporting new advertisements that declare, "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."
According to Britain's Telegraph newspaper , organizers say they bought the advertising to counter messages of "eternal damnation" that are frequently seen advertised elsewhere.
"The posters will encourage people to consider the most important question we will ever face in our lives," Paul Woolley, director of theology think tank Theos, told the Telegraph .
Prominent atheist Prof. Richard Dawkins and the British Humanist Association recently donated to the advertising efforts, which will allow ads to be expanded to an additional 600 buses throughout Britain and Scotland.
Last November, the American Humanist Association poured $40,000 into an ad campaign seen on buses in Washington , D.C., that had a similar message -- "Why believe in a God? Just be good for goodness' sake."
Despite the messages, a Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life poll from earlier this year found that 92 percent of Americans believe in God .
