SANTA FE (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez's administration says about 7,100 state workers will receive incorrect paychecks because of a possible software glitch in the government's payroll system.
Department of Finance and Administration officials said Thursday the workers will be paid less than what they are owed. In some instances, paychecks may be half of what an employee is entitled to for an 80-hour pay period.
Direct paycheck deposits will be credited to worker accounts Friday morning. Agency spokesman Tim Korte said the state hopes to provide the balance of the workers' paychecks later Friday but some deposits may not go through until Saturday.
The department handles the payroll for about 22,000 workers for executive branch agencies, the Legislature and state courts. Paycheck deposits were delayed last month because of an agency employee's mistake.
(Update from KRQE.com: Shortly before noon a DFA spokesman said supplemental payments had been made to affected workers so they received their full salaries on Friday. However a new issue arose involving automatic distributions from bank accounts for things like mortgage, utility and child-support payments. Workers with thos arrangements are being told to monitor their bank accounts to confirm those automatic payments are made as expected.)
