Funeral held for toddler killed by dog

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Mourners will gather in Las Cruces to remember a baby girl who was fatally mauled by her family's dog.
The Las Cruces Sun-News ( http://bit.ly/JYwtMS ) reports the funeral for 15-month-old Jazilyn Mesa is scheduled for Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
A "celebration of life" will take place after the service on the church campus.
Authorities say Jazilyn suffered multiple injuries to her head and chest from the family's 2-year-old pit bull and was rushed to a Las Cruces hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police say the attack happened in the backyard of her grandparent's residence. The girl's grandmother tried to intervene but was attacked by the dog.
The neighbor later shot and killed the dog.
