ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico county jail may be getting solar power.
The Alamogordo Daily News reports ( http://bit.ly/ycpbWY ) that Otero County Commission recently approved the lease of 25 acres of county land adjacent to the Otero County Prison Facility for a solar power plant.
Officials say the plant will provide 1 megawatt of production.
County attorney Dan Bryant said at the end of the lease, the solar field will become the county's property. He said the lease agreement has to go to the state Board of Finance and will not be final until it is approved by that board, which could be late February at the earliest.
The lease is between the county and AIR Cadmos Energy I Corporation.
