LAGUNA, N.M. (KRQE) - A flood of good news in the form of cash has hit the Laguna Pueblo.

The U.S. Agriculture Department's Rural Development Program is funneling nearly $3.2 million to upgrade the pueblo's 40-old-year water system.

The documents sealing the deal will be signed Monday at 4:00 p.m. at the Tribal Administration Building.

Last month, Laguna Pueblo residents were without water for days.

People were delivering drinking water door-to-door; others rented port-a-potties and headed into town to do laundry.

The money from the grant will replace portions of aging, inadequate water mains with PVC pipe.

It will also replace to existing water tanks with 250,000 gallon storage tanks and install valves to improve the overall function of the system.
