KEWA PUEBLO (KRQE) - Tuesday, state, local and tribal officials opened the Kewa Rail Runner station with service expecting to start on March 22.
The station is only the second to open on pueblo land and is the 12th overall for the Rail Runner Express.
The project was funded with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“Thanks to the Recovery Act, we were able to earmark the money needed to complete this project in Kewa Pueblo, on top of providing jobs to New Mexicans and bringing an affordable transit option to the area," Transportation Secretary Gary L.J. Girón said.
New Mexico received $27.5 million for transit-related projects. $12.3 million was used to fund rural projects like the Kewa Pueblo station.
Service to the Kewa Station will begin on Monday March 22.
