JEMEZ PUEBLO, N.M. (KRQE) - The man killed in a weather-related crash on U.S. Highway 550 Monday has been identified as a well-known musician from Jemez Pueblo.
Jimmy Shendo, 59, died when his southbound pickup truck slid into the path of a northbound 18-wheeler at about 11 a.m. Shendo died at the scene; the truck driver was not injured.
The crash occurred near mile marker 110 in San Juan County near the Sandoval County line, according to the San Juan County Sheriff's Department. Initial reports Monday put the crash in Sandoval County.
Shendo, an award-winning musician and songwriter, was a native of Jemez Pueblo and a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, according to his MySpace.com page.
