Wilson team: Tough campaign to hurt Heinrich

WASHINGTON (AP) - Heather Wilson is used to close calls in election campaigns. Now, she's making the case that her history of hard-fought contests will benefit her candidacy in this year's closely watched U.S. Senate race against Democratic Rep. Martin Heinrich.
Wilson and members of her campaign team outlined for reporters Wednesday how they believe she will win in a state that leans Democratic.
Their theory is that Wilson is a known commodity while Heinrich has never had to negotiate a tough political campaign before. Voters have already heard the negatives that will be thrown at Wilson, but that's not the case for Heinrich.
Heinrich's campaign spokeswoman, Whitney Potter, scoffed at the claim that Heinrich hasn't been through the political wringer before, noting that both of his congressional wins were close.
