ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The majority of Albuquerque drivers do not want to see the red light cameras anymore.

The unofficial results from Tuesday’s city election show 53 percent of voters recommend the cameras be shut off...while 47 percent want to keep them.

City councilor Dan Lewis was behind the move to put the cameras on Tuesday’s ballot, saying the program is a "big scam".

However, it is still up to the full city council to decide the fate of the program.

At least five of nine councilors we asked say they will vote to get rid of the cameras if that's what voters want.

Mayor R.J. Berry says he will respect the voters' wishes.

The city council could take up the issue at any time.
