UNM dean tapped for Obama cabinet role

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The dean of the University of New Mexico School of Law is getting a new job in Washington.

President Obama has nominated Kevin Washburn to be the Department of the Interior's assistant secretary for Indian affairs.

Washburn is a member of the Chickasaw Nation from Oklahoma.

He's been the dean of the law school for three years and has an extensive background in Indian law.
