WASHINGTON (KRQE) - On Capitol Hill, senators are poised and ready to vote on whether lawmakers will debate the massive health care reform legislation.

New Mexico Sen. Tom Udall spoke in the senate chamber Saturday, painting a grim picture for New Mexicans if the bill doesn't pass.

“For New Mexicans, the status quo isn't an option. That's because without this health care reform, our state is expected to experience the largest increase in insurance premiums of any state in the union,” Udall said. “In 2016, without this reform, a family of four in New Mexico can expect to pay an astounding $28,000 a year for health care premiums. That will consume more than 56 percent of that family's projected in come for the year.”

Both New Mexico senators said they will vote to move forward with debating the sweeping health care reform legislation.
