SANTA FE (KRQE) - A state agency is proposing that people with a license be allowed to bring their loaded weapons into New Mexico state parks.

Loaded concealed weapons are currently prohibited in state parks.

A State Parks Division official says the proposed change will bring regulations into compliance with New Mexico law that allows people with permits to carry concealed handguns except in courts, schools and bars.

A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for Oct. 17 in Santa Fe.
