ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Former Governor Bill Richardson and Google Executive Eric Schmidt have failed to get an American citizen being held in North Korea released.

The two have been trying to help the Korean American get out of jail in North Korea, but it turns out North Korea would not let them meet.

They were told the prisoner is in good health and that judicial proceedings will start soon.

Richardson also urged that North Korea and South Korea have better communication.

”We think it's important that the north-south dialogue be revived,” Richardson said. “We think it's important that the united states and North Korea start having some bilateral discussions, but we need dialogue, not confrontations in the peninsula.”

The U.S. Federal Government did not approve Richardson’s visit and even asked the two not to go.
