Name sought for South Valley

SOUTH VALLEY, N.M. (KRQE) - What's in a name? For a group trying to incorporate part of Albuquerque's South Valley, a name is a necessity, and it's asking for ideas from residents.

The group has been trying to incorporate the area into its own town, which would border Albuquerque along the city's jagged southwest border.

In order to petition the state to grant the town legal authority to make its own decisions, such as through a town council, the petition needs to include a name for the town.

That's where residents' input comes into play for the group, which is collecting names for the town through June 26. Residents can submit their ideas several ways:

• In person at any of four locations: South Valley Library, 3904 Isleta Blvd. SW; West Side Community Center, 1250 Isleta Blvd. SW; Los Padillas Community Center, 2117 Los Padillas Rd. SW; or Mountain View Community Center, 201 Prospect Ave. SE
