(KRQE) - The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that Gov. Bill Richardson will be nominated for Secretary of Commerce on Wednesday.

The newspaper cited Democratic officials in a brief report posted to its Web site shortly before noon Mountain time.

Numerous reports over the past few weeks have mentioned Richardson could be tapped for the commerce job. He had also been a frontrunner for Secretary of State, but President-elect Barack Obama instead nominated former rival Sen. Hillary Clinton for that position.

If Richardson is named to the position, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish would take over his remaining term as governor.

This would not be Richardson's first Cabinet appointment. Under President Clinton, Richardson served as Secretary of Energy and as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Obama's staff on Tuesday announced that Louis Caldera, former University of New Mexico president and current UNM law professor, will serve as director of the White House Military Office .
