ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - South Valley residents itching to create a brand new town discussed the dream once again Saturday before the measure goes to voters in January.
The group selected "Valle De Atrisco" as the new name for the town.
Bernalillo County Commissioner Art De La Cruz hosted the Hand in Hand event to answer questions about several issues.
South Valley residents said they attended the event for a variety of reasons.
"To meet with some of our elected officials, and find out the status of our South Valley Gateway Park, and find out the status of that, that's the main reason," resident Jason Davis said.
The proposed town would stretch from Interstate 25 out to the Mesa, and from Interstate 40 down to the Isleta Pueblo.
Supporters said it's time for the South Valley to break away, and that they’ve come up with a workable budget.
Opponents said the costs of provide police, fire, city services and infrastructure make the plan unrealistic.
In January, voters within the boundaries of the proposed town will send in their ballots by mail.
