Error delays payday for ABQ employees

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - City of Albuquerque employees who get their pay through direct deposit will have to wait an extra day before seeing their money because of human error.

Those workers were supposed to be paid Thursday, but won't receive their deposits until Friday.

The city employs 6,000 people, and more than 90 percent of them are enrolled in direct deposit. All of those people will be affected by the error.

Officials said the wrong date was entered in the city's new payroll software program.

Union officials are worried that employees who use direct deposit and have payments automatically made from their account on Thursday, which could cause them to overdraft.

The city has promised to reimburse employees for any overdraft fees caused by the error. They'll need to contact the Human Resources Department to do so.

State offices changed to the same software last year, and errors prevented some employees from being paid for weeks.
