Prop 8 protested around the country

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Americans in every state, including New Mexico, protested California's Proposition 8 Saturday.

Proposition 8 makes homosexual marriage illegal in the state of California.

In Boston, more than 4,000 people protested the proposition. The rally was one of many planned by gay marriage advocates throughout the country.

Massachusetts was the first state to legally recognize gay marriages back in 2004.

Here in Albuquerque, a few hundred people came out to protest at Civic Plaza.

Protestors believe Saturday's turnout indicates that there's enough support here to legalize gay marriage in the state.

"If a ban on gay marriage comes up on the ballot in New Mexico, gay marriage will happen in New Mexico based on the amount of people who came out to support it," Protestor Michael Butler said.

Activists said that they're working on a two-year grassroots plan to overturn California's Proposition 8 in the 2010 election.
