ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - Over-inflated flood insurance could soon be in the past for parts of Roswell and Chaves County, now that FEMA has agreed to review a new set of flood insurance maps that many call inaccurate.
The dispute stems from changes that went into effect in 2003 that basically doubled the size of land included in the flood plain, according to the Roswell Daily Record.
City officials have been arguing that the maps exaggerate the flood risk, forcing home and business owners to pay higher insurance premiums.
FEMA reportedly agreed to reevaluate the flood maps, after a conference call arranged by Rep. Harry Teague, D-N.M.
