HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - State police say former state Rep. Dan Berry has died in a three-vehicle crash in southeastern New Mexico.
Police say the crash happened just north of Hobbs on Tuesday afternoon. The 87-year-old Berry was a passenger in a Cadillac that pulled out in front of two northbound vehicles. Both vehicles hit the Cadillac on the driver's side.
Berry was taken to Lea Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Four others involved in the crash were treated at the Hobbs hospital and one other was taken to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
Berry was a former Democratic representative from Eunice who had recently moved to Hobbs. He had represented District 61 in the state Legislature for 17 years, retiring in 1989.
