LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - The Las Cruces City Council will be considering a resolution Monday to create a regional recycling program.

The South Central Solid Waste Authority would administer the program.

Last month the city's Utilities Board recommended approval of the proposed regional recycling program.

It would include the city and county.

Las Cruces currently operates a voluntary recycling program in which residents can dispose of newspapers, corrugated cardboard, metal and aluminum cans. To implement the program, the city would agree to sell the authority various pieces of equipment.

The equipment would be sold to the authority for $404,000.
