ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - One day after winning the mayoral election in New Mexico's largest city, Richard Berry says he needs more time to consider what to do about his legislative seat.
The two-term state representative will be Albuquerque's next mayor, taking office Dec. 1 after winning Tuesday's election. Under the state Constitution, Berry is not required to give up his legislative seat to serve as mayor.
However, Berry said Wednesday the job as mayor requires a full-time commitment and it would be difficult to remain in the Legislature. He says he wants to make "an informed decision" but offered no timeline for having an announcement.
When Martin Chávez was first elected mayor in 1994, he was a state senator and gave up the seat.
