RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) - More snow removal equipment is coming to Rio Rancho after a public outcry over uncleared streets following a December snowstorm.
City Manager James Jimenez says the city bought eight plows and eight spreaders for city vehicles.
The Albuquerque Journal reports Jimenez told the city council this week that the cost was $92,000.
Some Rio Rancho residents complained after many neighborhood streets remained icy and schools closed for three days after the December storm dumped up to 8 inches of snow.
Jimenez said the city has to weigh making a huge investment on such equipment when Rio Rancho usually sees fewer than 10 snowy days a year.
The city spent $46,000 to remove snow removal in December. The costs included staff overtime, sand, salt, fuel and other items.
