ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The first ever bike and pedestrian path over I-25 has a strip club on one side and a restaurant with scantily clad staff on the other.
Along with those businesses are other restaurants, hotels and bike paths.
"A lot of folks like to bike to work, like to bike for recreation," Albuquerque Mayor R.J. Berry said. "This is a great connector now between the Bear Canyon bike paths and the Jefferson bike paths on the other side. It certainly allows safer access across the freeways."
The bridge costs $3.8 million. The city is paying for $600,000 of that and the feds are picking up the rest of the tab.
Bicyclist Katie Mast says she doesn't mind that the bridge is next to a strip club or Twin Peaks restaurant as long as it provides a safe route for cyclists.
"there's lots of interesting places that the bike paths go past. As a cyclist just riding around from one place to the next, I think the most important thing is to have a safe way to get from one point to another," Mast said.
Bridge construction should be finished this summer.
