Mitt Romney to visit Hobbs, NM

ALBUQEURQUE (KRQE) - The campaign season is underway and New Mexico will be in the spotlight Thursday when Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney visits Hobbs.

Romney is set to make a quick stop there at 10-30 Thursday morning and he could make a big announcement.

It's being billed as an energy event and Mitt Romney and his campaign say Thursday’s visit could be a big policy speech and announcement.

The anticipation is that Romney will lay out his energy plan and it's also the buildup going into the Republican Party Convention that starts on Sunday.

After his appearance at the Watson Truck and Supply Company in Hobbs, Romney will take part in a fundraising reception later in the afternoon.

Some may question why his appearance is happening down south rather than in Albuquerque or Santa Fe, political analyst Joe Monahan says the timing and place of the announcement couldn't happen in a better spot than in Hobbs.

”I think it is going to come true that he is going to make a major policy announcement regarding America’s energy policy and where better than in lea county, New Mexico where oil is in such abundance and which really is the energy capitol of this state,” Monahan said.

The Obama campaign headquarters say they are going to wait to visit New Mexico until their convention ends week after next.
