ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Business owner Roxanna Meyers was sworn in Friday as the newest member of the Albuquerque City Council.

Mayor Richard J. Berry selected Meyers from a field of applicants.

"I wanted to see who came forward and who was proactive, and I think hands down Roxanna was the most proactive person," Berry said.

Meyers will fill the seat vacated by Councilor Debbie O'Malley, who was sworn in as a Bernalillo County commissioner Friday.

Meyers will serve residents in a district taking in downtown, Old Town, and parts of the university area.

She is the president of Century Sign Builders Inc. in numerous community organizations, according to the mayor's office.
