ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - For years there’s been talk about a massive downtown Albuquerque revitalization project, and now Mayor Richard Berry said he wants to hear from the public about what citizens want to see happen.
The Web site on CABQ.com states the city is seeking input on “a proposed event center, hotel development and convention center upgrade in downtown Albuquerque.”
“Really, give the mayor feedback on what you think is good about [it.] If there could be an event center and a hotel project, and also what would be the negative," Albuquerque Director of Economic Development John Garcia said.
The Web site is being used by the mayor to gauge the public’s interest. The mayor’s office said he’s reading nearly every suggestion.
The city is looking into the issue again because so much time and money was poured into the issue during Mayor Martin Chavez’s administration.
However, the current economic climate is a concern.
"It makes sense to get feedback from the citizens on this project, if there is a project. And then move forward in a very prudent and practical way, and not miss the opportunity in three to four years," Garcia said.
